Default Wine

I am trying to educate myself in the wine department. I have started having a glass of wine as opposed to 'half a lager'. I have started on Blue Nun and White Zinfandel to ease myself in Mission accomplished, took a while but I now enjoy it. What I want to know is when you go out for a meal and ask for the 'house white' what are you likely to get?? Is that usually a cheap wine or a good one? I definatly feel more ladylike with a glass of wine in my hand than a half pint or in some cases a pint pot (when the queue is that big at the bar I can't be bothered going again).LOL

Ease yourself into the red wine with port .. .lol
Most house wines are normally cheep...
I think you've got to carry on testing all the wines to see what ones you like..
Forget the pint pot !! just buy ya wine by the bottle . .LoL

Hi FF-I would look well stood in a bar with a bottle of wine . Can't drink red, even the expensive ones taste like vinegar! Will just have to buy a different one each time I go shopping and test it Will have fun trying them, i have noticed drinking wine makes me quite mellow, although the second glass brings on the giggles-haven't got to the third glass yet as my chap always has to sample the other half of the bottle, probably just as well-I am trying to be more sophisticated after all

Evening JJ
OMG have you never had port ???you should try a glass if you haven't
Sounds to me you like most German wines, some of the Chilean and south African whites can be a little sharper..
i`am not really keen on white, however i do like allot of white organic wines they seem to have a little more flavour...
Isn't rose` wines back in fashion??? i like the fetzer one
Good luck with the testing

Evening yourself FF- I shall try a glass of port, on your recommendation. Ros'e wines are quite popular now yes, I quite like Mateus, in the stumpy fat bottle. Trying to only drink at the weekends for a bit, can't get motivated at the mo-think it's the dark nights drawing back in-very tempting to draw the curtains and pop a cork.
