Smile cut-throat razor

Hi,

My girlfriend heard some guy on the radio recently. He's written a book on shaving - which tells you how to shave with a cut-throat razor. But she didn't get his name or the title of the book. Does anyone know anything about this? She said he had a Scandinavian-sounding name.

And does anyone out there use a cut-throat razor?

thanks - stephen

I don't know anything about the book you mentioned, but I have tried a cut-throat razor for shaving. It was a good shave, trouble was it was a real pain having to sharpen the thing, so much so that I gave up with it.

The best place to try out a cut-throat razor shave is at a good old fashioned barber's. It is a luxury but worth it for the experience. Myself I use a Gillette Mach 3 Turbo that my sister bought me as a present. It is about the best shaver I have ever used. Blades seem a bit expensive at first but they last ages and - unlike any other razor - I haven't cut myself in over 18 months. Wouldn't like to trust myself with a cut-throat anywhere near my neck!

I used to go to an old-fashioned barber shop a few years ago, and I asked him about having a 'proper' shave with the full works....cut throat razor, hot towels, the works....he said that he couldnt do them anymore because of a) health risks (ie ***** infections) and b) the risk of someone sueing him if he accidentally nicked them with the blade....

Are there any barbers out there who still offer this service, and if so, where? Preferably in Kent...
