I've just been to the Tate Modern for the first time and I am confused! Is this what art is now? If so give me a hammer so I can smash up some of this rubbish.

AH, nice to know we have a sophisticated critical brain on these forums...

modern art is mostly described as lazy, nieve and somewhat childish. however there are some talented artists out there but very few. listen carefully to the words an art critic uses to describe a piece of modern art and you will know what i mean.

One of my brothers is an artist, he does all sorts, No sculptures or anything like that, but he paints, draws with fine pens, Uses all kinds of different technique to get the right effect. My other brother is a photographer, And I make cards out of there art work, and photos. I would love to go to the Tate Modern!!!
But i live in Wales, so its a bit harder to get there!!

Try not to let it confuse you, it is actually very liberating. It means you do not have to worry about what is or is not Art...
With Modern Art, the concept can be more important than the practical result. It's not better or worse than an oil or water colour painting, just different! I love conceptual art and art that is truly challenging. One of my favourite artists is a fellow called Paul McCarthy (not to be confused with he of The Beatles fame!). ![]() |
